The best part of being a nature photographer is sharing the amazing beauty she has to offer. There is magic in every day, in every moment if one takes the time to look and to see. There really is something to that old adage "take time to smell the roses", for me it's taking the time to breathe in and smell not only the roses and plants but also the air, letting it all be a part of me. Being in nature heals the spirit. This is what I wish to share with you by capturing just some of those enchanting moments.
When I am not behind the camera you will find me practicing aromatherapy, creating essential oil blends and studying plants and other avenues of holistic health.
Today I awoke to a most welcomed sound, the cadence of rain on fallen, dry leaves outside of my window. Since I’m a nature girl to the core of course I was *sleeping* with my windows open (that means I lay in the dark with the windows open listening to the night sounds; sleep doesn’t come easily to me). The early morning temperatures are beginning to embody the crispness that one typically associates with fall, a time when it is pure luxury to snuggle deeper into the pillows and down comforters.
I will confess I luxuriated in the contrasting soft crisp morning and forced myself to feel absolutely no guilt. I did finally drag myself from my cocoon, but do have to admit in order to hold onto the spirit of this cloudy, breezy, sometimes rainy fall day I could not bring myself to get dressed.
So here I sit, in my pajamas, with all of the windows and doors open allowing the breeze entrance, listening to nature’s wind chimes; a steaming cup of black coffee at my elbow working on client orders and enjoying the pure simplicity of this amazing day.
May you see and embrace life’s simplicity and have a joyful day my friends.
Meet Sonja, or what I secretly call her, “Love Bug”, shhh… don’t tell, I think she’s supposed to be fierce (and probably would be if anyone made a move on any of her family). Sonja and her brother Luka (you can see him in the Animal Portraits Gallery) will literally envelop you in love with their big furry bodies. I had the pleasure of taking some shots of them while visiting my friend and doing some (non-animal) portraits and nature shots on/of her lovely property.
Big enough to take a limb if necessary, and maybe more, these two show pure love every time I see them. They bound around happily when I arrive (every time) reminding one of the simple joy of being greeted. And so I greet you ~ “Hello!! I’m happy you are here and I hope you have a great day!”
Walking through the park a couple of weeks ago I found myself wishing for green, lamenting the fact that everything was so very dry; I was longing for beautiful, lush scenery. Northern California has been setting records this year for lack of rainfall and I was falling into the cycle of thinking green equals beautiful and nothing else would do. Once I turned my camera on, however, and looked through the viewfinder I was reminded there is beauty in everything, we've only just look, and see. Yes I'm still yearning for the life giving rain and the rebirth of the land, but upon exploring more that day I was able to see the beauty in the absolute starkness that this drought has brought. The sharp angles and dark shadows showing in vivid detail how thirsty this area is. I was also rewarded with glimpses of hope as I ventured further into the dryness.
Hidden beneath some large, dead brambles were some wild berry plants still striving and growing complete with new leaves. The magic of nature, showing the ultimate in perseverance, against the odds she refuses to give in. A good lesson for us all.
May you see the beauty around you and have an enchanted day.
